Hi. I’m Tom McDaid, a freelance Digital Designer with masses of experience in UI, UX, visual, motion and 3D design. I’ve had the privilege of working with great companies such as Orange, TfL, BBC, ITV, 20th Century Fox and more. My past projects mostly consist of entertainment based mobile apps, along with projects for Fintech, Insurance, Telecoms, Transport, Travel and Charity/Not-forProfit clients.

Freelance Digital Designer specialising in mobile apps and motion graphics/3D. My involvement in projects ranges from initial product conception and UX through to hands-on visual UI design, product promotion, user testing and product improvement/iteration. I am experienced with motion graphics and 3D which has often been exploited in the creation of videos, transitions, animated interactions and 3D environments for entertainment-based products.
Recent app projects I have been involved in include designing products for; TfL, Orange, CBBC, Solera Holdings (Insurance Fintech), The Commonwealth Games, The Walking Dead, Countdown and Catchphrase.
Deluxe Digital StudiosLead UI / Mobile Designer • November 2009 – May 2010
Lead Graphic Designer in the mobile apps department of one of the largest post production companies in the world. I was responsible for all of the design work coming out of the Deluxe Apps Deparment and my day-to-day role would consist of UI/UX, visual design, exporting assets for development, 3D modelling, motion graphics, liasing with developers and stakeholders, managing and training other designers in the department and more.
Notable projects included the Mighty Boosh “Old Gregg Torch” app for BBC Worldwide, several “Despicable Me” apps for Universal Pictures and the “Percy Jackson” app for 20th Century Fox.
Re:fine GroupHead of Design • 2007 – November 2009
As Head of Design, I was responsible for all of the creative output of the company, the design flows and systems used, managing the creative team and ensuring that all of the company’s products were of a high quality, within budget and on time. My day to day tasks included management of the design team and projects, and hands-on design of DVD and Blu-ray menus and packaging print artwork for the key clients, creating interactive CD-ROMs, designing branded materials and showreels for the company, training staff, keeping designs systems efficient and up-to-date and more.
Some of the projects that I designed for included DVDs and Blu-rays for The Wu-Tang Clan, Pink Floyd, FilmFour and The British Museum.
