I’m Tom McDaid, a freelance Digital Product Designer based in Bristol (UK) with masses of experience in UI, UX, visual design, motion and 3D. I’ve had the privilege of working with great companies such as Discovery Networks, Orange Mobile, Transport for London, BBC, ITV, 20th Century Fox and more. My past projects mostly consist of entertainment based mobile apps, along with projects for Fintech, Insurance, Telecoms, Transport, Travel and Charity/Not-for-Profit clients.

Freelance Digital Product Designer for various platforms with a specialism in mobile apps. My involvement in projects ranges from initial product conception and UX through to hands-on UI and visual design, working with developers and stakeholders, carrying out user testing and product improvement/iteration. I am experienced with motion graphics (including Lottie) and 3D which has often been exploited in the creation of videos, transitions and animated interactions for numerous products and promotional materials.
Recent projects I have been involved in include designing products for; The Discovery Channel, Transport for London, Orange Mobile, CBBC, Solera Holdings (Insurance Fintech), The Commonwealth Games, The Walking Dead, Countdown and Catchphrase.
UX/UI DesignerDeluxe Digital Studios • November 2009 – May 2010
Lead Graphic Designer in the mobile apps department of one of the largest post production companies in the world. I was responsible for all of the design work coming out of the Deluxe Apps Department and my day-to-day role would consist of UI/UX, visual design, exporting assets for development, 3D modelling, motion graphics, liaising with developers and stakeholders, managing and training other designers in the department and more.
Notable projects included the Mighty Boosh “Old Gregg Torch” app for BBC Worldwide, several “Despicable Me” apps for Universal Pictures and the “Percy Jackson” app for 20th Century Fox.
Lead DesignerRe:fine Group • 2007 – November 2009
As Lead Designer, I was responsible for all of the creative output of the company, the design flows and systems used, managing the creative team and ensuring that all of the company’s products were of a high quality, within budget and on time. My day to day tasks included management of the design team and projects, and hands-on design of DVD and Blu-ray menus and packaging print artwork for the key clients, creating interactive CD-ROMs, designing branded materials and showreels for the company, training staff, keeping designs systems efficient and up-to-date and more.
Some of the projects that I designed for included DVDs and Blu-rays for The Wu-Tang Clan, Pink Floyd, FilmFour and The British Museum.
